SHS Student Publications consists of the Tiger’s Lair yearbook, the Tiger’s Tale monthly newspaper, and the SHS Student Publications’ social media pages. Students on staff work all year to produce publications that interest our student audience and inform readers on the happenings at SHS.

The Tale staff produces monthly feature, news and sports stories for SHS students. Students are responsible for gathering sources, interviewing, writing stories and taking pictures for the paper.

The Lair staff works all year, including the summer, to create a book that will capture the memories of that year. These students design the book from cover-to-cover and fill the pages with pictures and short articles describing events of the year.

Both staffs are responsible for posting on our social media pages. The purpose of these pages is to show what daily life is like at SHS.

Students on staff, and even first year students, are training to be professionals in the media world by sharpening their picture taking skills, writing good stories and keeping their eyes and ears open for stories and new ways we can increase coverage of school activities.

It is our goal to include all students in our publications multiple times throughout the year. We believe every student at SHS is integral to our school environment, and we hope we can capture every students’ high school memories whether online or in print.

UIL

In addition to our daily work, students can also participate in the four different UIL Journalism events: feature writing, editorial writing, news writing and headline writing. In the last 15 years, the journalism team has taken home the district championship nine times.
