The future for Snyder is bright! Snyder High School students in the Teaching and Training program, Kambry Jones, Taryn Nobles, and Zairah Cabrera, presented to the SISD Board of Trustees during their most recent board meeting. These students have competed successfully at the regional, state, and national levels of the Texas Association of Future Educators ( TAFFE) competitions, and they’ve advanced to Nationals again this year.

As part of the program, they work with elementary students during WIN (What I Need) Time, which is a small group pull-out program to help students in math or reading. This provides an opportunity to learn TEKS-based lesson planning, classroom management and strategies, and most importantly, how to build effective relationships to help students succeed.

In addition to an internship, students have the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching through Western Texas College while in high school!

The opportunities for these students continue after graduation.  The TechTeachAcrossRuralTexas program is offered to students who hold an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree. The teacher candidates who enroll in the one-year teacher preparation program engage in an intense clinical experience in partnership with Snyder ISD. The teacher candidates receive classroom coaching from skilled, experienced site coordinators and mentor teachers. They immediately apply principles and strategies from online coursework in their field placement classrooms while completing a Bachelor of Science degree and a teacher certification in one calendar year.
