alma mater

On the fifth day of two-a-days and the eve of the Watermelon Bowl, the Snyder High School football team gathered for a special team dinner. Parents pitched in at a moment’s notice to provide tacos, nachos, and all the toppings. Seniors served their teammates first and ate last, setting the tone for leadership and service.

The highlight of the night came when Coach Gonzales explained what it would take to leave. Each player had to memorize and sing the Snyder High School alma mater. The team split into two groups: linemen and skills. Led by two teammates who are members of the SHS Choir, they practiced the words and worked hard to perfect (almost) their tune.

When it was performance time, the coaches listened closely. If they missed a single word, the group had to practice and sing again.

This tradition is about more than football. It is about pride in our community and pride that our staff and students are working hard to restore. It starts with us. The alma mater is a cornerstone of Snyder High, and moments like these help build a strong, lasting culture that will carry onto the field, into the classroom, and beyond.

Do you know the words?

"On fair Snyder's Southern Border,

Reared against the sky,

Proudly stands our Alma Mater,

As the years go by,

Onward, ever, be our watchword,

Conquer and prevail.

Here's to thee, our Alma Mater,

Snyder High, all hail!"
