Snyder ISD Announces John Rush as Principal for Snyder Junior High School

July 14, 2021, Snyder, Texas -- Following the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees vote to end the contract with Responsive Education Solutions on Thursday of last week, district leaders immediately moved forward to plan for the 2021-2022 school year.  John Rush, who has worked for Snyder ISD since 2016, was named the new principal for Snyder Junior High. The leadership team for the campus will include many of the same people that served in leadership roles last year.

“Mr. Rush is committed to our district,” said Dr. Eddie Bland, Superintendent of Schools for Snyder ISD.  “He served as the Associate Principal for Snyder Junior High from 2016-2018 before taking on the District RtI (Response to Intervention) Behavior Coordinator role in 2018.”

Mr. Rush was born and raised in Temple, Texas, where he graduated from Temple High School in 1988 and Temple Junior College in 1990.  He then went to Angelo State University and graduated with a BS in Kinesiology and a minor in Mathematics in 1993.  At that point, he began a career in education as a teacher and coach.  In 2010 he graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Master of Education degree. In 2014 began his second career in education as an assistant principal at Marshall High School before moving to Snyder with his family in 2016.

“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of Snyder Junior as we build strong futures for our students,” said Rush.  “The priority this week is to hire staff to fill a few vacant positions at the Junior High.  Mrs. Mebane and I have been conducting interviews, and we are encouraged by the quality of candidates.”

One of the most common questions among junior high parents is regarding the standardized dress policy.  “This is by far the number one question parents are asking.  We understand the urgency as parents are eager to make purchases for the upcoming school year,” said Rush.  “The junior high leadership team met Monday and fully supports the standardized dress policy.  So, at this time we do not plan on changing the dress code for the upcoming school year.” A copy of the standardized dress code for the junior high is on the Snyder ISD website, www.snyderisd.net, under “Back to School HQ.”

A  meeting is scheduled for junior high staff on Monday, July 19th to continue planning for the upcoming school year.  A meeting for families will be held in the coming weeks.  The district is working on a FAQ document and encourages families to submit their questions by emailing questions@snyderisd.net
