Snyder Junior High is excited to announce the winners from the Divisional STEM Competition through TAME. The STEM Divisional Competition is organized by T.A.M.E., Texas Alliance for Minority Engineers. The engineering club here at Snyder Junior High is operated through the ACE program and is coached by Mr. Cole Gossett.
TAME’s annual Divisional and State STEM Competitions bring together thousands of high-performing TAME Club students from across the state to test their STEM skills through collaborative engineering challenges and individual timed tests.
The Lubbock/Ft. Worth Divisional STEM Competition was virtually hosted through the Whova event organizer app. The students were able to work with their teams virtually in Zoom breakout rooms. There were 20 different teams consisting of 8-10 students, and the SJH engineering team was spread out amongst several different teams. Each team was given a geological subsurface map and were tasked with determining the best locations for oil wells to be constructed. They also had several side tasks that boosted their point total such as calculating how many barrels of oil could be produced from each well based on how much is collected. Each student had a specific engineering role to perform on their team. Two of Snyder's 8th grade students were on the 2nd place team and have qualified to compete in the State Virtual STEM Competition.
